Birthdays runs and money

Another year has rolled round for me. I'm now officially much closer to the next decade than I was two years ago. Much. So much so that the decade is peeking its little nose around a corner in the future, occasionally taunting me and making tick tocking noises.

This year's celebration was sedate, as the bday itself fell on Easter. There was family time, and there was time later in the day for a nice run. And there was a most amazing dinner that night orchestrated and prepared and presented by Hubby, who outdid himself. Again. Crab legs. Crispy sourdough bread. Steamed artichokes. Silverado Chardonnay. Old fashioned chocolate cake.

Yum.

And, as I'm wont to do, I took a day for myself. To contemplate my life, my blessings. And to shop a little. For new running shoes. Which I found, and tested out. And they're awesome. Also for a pair of Keen sandals, which I've been wanting for....ever, but hadn't wanted to pony up for til now. They're sagey green, super cute, and I'm pretty sure I could climb a wall in them if I wanted to. But I probably won't because I'm not thrilled with heights.

It's safe to say this was a shoe-y birthday. Runners. Casual sandals.

It was a good day. And for that I'm thankful.

A hell of my own creation, or how that nightmare I have about missing my flight came true

Seriously. For the past 11 years I have been a serious business traveler. At my peak travel frequency I was on the road at least twice a month for a week at a time. It was brutal. It was a test in personal and professional endurance. It was part of my job. Travel is a part of what I still do, but usually it's not back to back to back to back like it has been this last few months. And it's never accompanied the hellish professional and emotional year that has unfolded. I'm setting you up to feel some sympathy for me, but really, it is what it is. I'm a grown up, and I screwed up. See, a couple of weeks ago we did a big shuffle on who was coming on this trip, and I rearranged the itineraries, rooms, etc., since I had made the original reservations. In the process, I actually traveled to another destination, was there for five days, did the song and dance that event required/deserved, then returned to home base...for less than a week, and now I'm on this ja...

Schnazzed up Desert Magnolia..again, thanks to LP the graphics guru!

Happy Thursday, everyone! Nope, it's not quite Spring yet, but sometimes a girl's gotta get a new 'do. Or in this case this girl's gotta get a new blog header. You know what I mean. Thank you LP! You rock. I love the artistic approach..it's soft but nice and still says, 'Enter here at your own risk, for opinions of a strong nature are sure to be expressed.' That's how I see it, anyway.

What do you wear in Austin in October??

It's suppose to be in the 80's during the day, and only in the 70's at night. It's humid. I'm not sure what to pack. For once I'm attending a conference instead of having a booth at the tradeshow and networking that way. It's going to be good...to be in the classroom, listening to what people are caring about now. I look forward to it. But I'm spending way too much time worrying about whether jeans are too hot, capris are too cliche, clogs are passe, should I just go with a theme and be done with it, and all that crap. Seriously, you'd think I have better things to waste mental energy on, right? Apparently not so much.
